A colleague of North Carolina state Rep. Larry Brown says the Forsyth County Republican has died at age 69.
Funeral home operator Rep. Jamie Boles said Brown died about 2 a.m. at First Health Moore Regional Center in Pinehurst. Boles is handling the arrangements. He didn't have a cause of death but said it was from natural causes.
Brown was a retired postmaster and former Kernersville mayor who began serving in the House in 2005. He was named chairman of the House Government Committee last year and lost a three-way GOP primary in May.
Boles said Brown had a vacation home in the Pinehurst area. Boles called Brown a compassionate legislator who had the interests of his constituents and local governments at heart.
Funeral arrangements hadn't been made early Thursday.
