The chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party won't seek another term leading the party after a year of internal turmoil related to a sexual harassment claim at headquarters involving two former employees.

David Parker said Wednesday in an interview his plan had been to serve just one two-year term but made it official in an email to party activists. The next chairman will be picked Feb. 2 in Durham.

Parker was elected in 2011 and remained on the job even after Gov. Beverly Perdue and others called on him to resign this past spring. That's when accusations surfaced against the party's executive director by another employee. Parker offered his resignation but party regulars declined to accept it.

Parker said he doubts he'll endorse a potential successor.
