Recount Set For District 1 NC Senate Race, Candidates Separated By 32 Votes

It's been two weeks since election day, and one local race is heading for a recount.

The District 1 N.C. Senate race currently has incumbent Stan White trailing challenger Bill Cook by just 32 votes. District 1 consists of 8 counties along the northeast, including Beaufort, Hyde and Dare counties. Monday Cook called for White to concede the race, saying that once canvassing was completed on Friday a recount wouldn't change the outcome, but White had other ideas, and Cook says he understands his decision.

"We've already filed the paperwork. I mean it's already been filed by the state board of elections and Gary Bartlett the executive director," said Stan White, (D) State Senator-District 1

"You owe it to the people who have helped you get to whatever point you're at," said Bill Cook, (R) State Senate-District 1

White says he was told by the N.C. Board of Elections that the recount will take place Monday November 26th.
