Perdue Calls Decision Not To Run 'Selfless'

North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue calls her decision not to seek re-election this year the "most selfless decision that I've ever made."

The Democrat says she also believes her pending fight on education spending is the biggest one she's ever faced.

Perdue made her first public comments Saturday night about her announcement two days earlier not to seek a second term. She spoke in Greensboro, where she is to give a speech to several hundred Democrats at a fundraising dinner later in the evening.

The state's first female governor told reporters she cares more deeply about children and education than any election and didn't want her recent proposal to raise sales taxes to become a wedge in a re-election campaign.

Perdue likely faced a tough rematch with former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, a Republican.

BS plain and simple. It was the most selfish. She knew she could not beat McCroy, period.

Do not feel sorry for her. Why spend the money on a race you can't win. Besides, with her track record some federal government agency will offered her a position and she still gets her retirement check from the tax payers of NC

Smart woman. She didn't want to waste time and money campaigning on an election she couldn't win. The Republics are going to take the seat. Anyone that chooses to run against McCrory is brave, expectially that ambulance chaser we used to see on TV.

Selfless my grandma's hatband. She is hiding something criminal I bet. Someone forced her into not running and the people of NC should find out what she is hiding. She has been the worse governor our state has ever had. Just be thankful that when she was lt. Governor she was not able to bet the bill pass that stopped Medicaid from paying for homecare in NC, even though it is historically healthier and cheaper than nursing home care. But if medicaid pays for homecare her family loses profits in their controlling interest in the nursing home business. So you can be sure her not running is only to her advantage she cares nothing for NC. She should just leave the state. We don't want her anymore. And lets hope she is not crazy enough to try to run for NC senate seat.

I'm tellin' ya,keep an eye on this woman! She didn't decide not to run because she thought it was the right thing to do. She was either promised something or its part of a plea deal. I'll be very surprised if she doesn't make another announcement in a few months!

if bev was really thinking of helping the state of NC and the nation of the USA, then she would take a page from the palestinians before attending the DNC atrocity in charlotte. THAT would be selfless!
