Oregon Activists Push For Legalizing The Cultivation And Use Of Marijuana

There's a movement in Oregon to legalize the cultivation and use of marijuana.

Supporters of the "Oregon Cannabis Tax Act" collected twice as many signature as they needed and submitted the petition to put it on the ballot. The law would allow Oregon farmers to grow hemp for use in food, bio fuel, and as a fiber. It also regulates the use of cannabis for people over the age of 21. Medical marijuana use is already legal in the state.

According to petitioners, the act would create jobs in the hemp industry and generate tax dollars. Opponents worry teens would have easier access to the drug and it would cost taxpayers more for new police training.
