Obama Strikes Back At GOP Critics On Gas Prices

President Barack Obama is hitting back at Republican criticism of his energy policies and his role in controlling gasoline prices.

Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday to underscore his administration's work to develop alternative energy sources and increase fuel efficiency.

"I'm going to keep doing everything I can to help you save money on gas, both right now and in the future," Obama said. "I hope politicians from both sides of the aisle join me."

He accused Republicans of a "bumper sticker" approach to solving the nation's energy problems.

It's a familiar theme -Obama stuck many of the same chords during two out-of-town trips this week and during a White House news conference on Wednesday.

"We can't just drill our way to lower gas prices - not when we consume 20 percent of the world's oil," Obama said in the address, recorded during a visit Friday to a Virginia jet engine component plant.

In the Republican weekly address, North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple accused the Obama administration of blocking projects and technology that would allow greater energy production. He singled out the Keystone XL pipeline project, which Obama deferred.

"We cannot effectively market our crude oil domestically without a large north-south pipeline," Dalrymple said. "North Dakota oil producers were scheduled to feed the Keystone pipeline with 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day."

Obama said there wasn't enough time to properly study the project ahead of the deadline forced upon him by Republican congressional lawmakers. On Thursday, the Democratic-controlled Senate blocked another Republican bid to speed approval of the pipeline, which would stretch from Canada to refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Also Thursday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Obama is partly to blame for higher prices at the pump.

Gasoline prices paused this week in their march toward $4 per gallon.

After 39 straight days of increases, prices fell nearly a penny from Tuesday to Thursday and held steady on Friday at $3.758 per gallon for the national average. The lull won't last long, and gas is still nearly 50 cents higher than it was at the beginning of the year.

Despite Romney's assertions, economists say there's not much a president of either party could do about gasoline prices. The current increases at the pump have been driven by fears of a war with oil-rich Iran and by higher demand in the U.S. as well as in China, India and other growing nations.

Two economists at the St. Louis Federal Reserve have published findings that indicate that Wall Street speculation is responsible for 15 percent of the increase in oil prices over the past decade, a finding with significant implications for the recent sharp rise in gas prices. While politicians have little ability to alter the price swings of commodities like oil, regulators have both the authority and policy tools to do so. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is responsible for overseeing the financial market for oil. The 2010 Wall Street reform bill gave the CFTC new power to limit excessive speculation, but the rule will not go into effect until later this year.

Well Barack your decision to not drill is partly to blame why gas prices are so high. These high gas prices have made several people get in a bind to where they have had to lay off other people. Also, if the government would crack down on these gas crooks that have significantly increased the prices, then gas would get cheaper. Crack down on the suspect who has stolen so much of our money. That's what it will also take to lower gas prices. Stop pointing fingers and do something about it. That's what we pay you to do.

The national debt is almost $15.6 trillion dollars. It would cost $1 million dollars a day for 42,739 years to pay off the debt (not including interest). Or, $100 million dollars per day for 427 years. It would take $100 million dollars per day for 137 years just to pay off Obama's $5 trillion dollars in added debt. Obama has increased the national debt by about $4.3 billion dollars per day since he took office!

Obama didn't purchase oil for the Strategic Oil Reserve when the price was already high, creating a shortage like Bush did.

Why? Did Republicans spend taxpayer money to create the Department of Energy in the 70's with the primary purpose of reducing America's dependence on foreign oil? Have Republican "nut jobs" opposed drilling for oil here in America for 20 years because it would take 4 or 5 years to make a difference in gas prices? Have the Republicans given the oil companies a reputation of being greedy although they only earn about 7 cents on every dollar they risk? Did the Republicans shoot down the Keystone Pipeline in order to keep lining the pockets of Saudi Princes? Was it a Republican who went on camera last week and lied to the American people by telling them that we do not have enough oil in this country to support our needs?

You may have sent in 6 "voter registration applications", but be warned. You needed either a Driver's license or the last 4 digits of your SS to have that application processed. All 6 will be entered in the system, which will show a duplication. If you used a "false" number for either of these, it will also show up. If you used the same information-only the last will be honored-the first five will automatically be dropped. I would be very careful about voting twice or 6 times, if I were you-you may be caught, but will picked up when you try to actually vote!

SS numbers are easy to get and all you need to know is if someone is an active voter. It is very easy to circumvent the system that is why we need voter ID.
