Nothing Yet On To-Do List For Next NC Session

Republican leaders at the North Carolina General Assembly don't expect they'll do much when lawmakers next gather officially in Raleigh.

The Legislature adjourned last month until Nov. 7, but Senate leader Phil Berger of Eden said Wednesday there are no current plans to take up substantive legislation on that date. A spokesman for House Speaker Thom Tillis confirmed similar plans.

Berger said he expects the Legislature to adjourn again that day, but it's unclear until when. The next regular session is set for May.

Several items could still soon warrant the Legislature's action. Gov. Beverly Perdue may request Hurricane Irene recovery money or ask lawmakers to sign off on expanded Cherokee casino gambling. New legislative and congressional district boundaries could be redrawn if they're rejected by federal attorneys or courts.

There would be something to do if I was in charge and first priority is clean out your desk, box up your pictures, and remove yourself from the property. Why don't they start NOW balancing the budget for next yr. or making balancing plans, instead of waiting to the 25th hr. to substatiate their positions, ego and give them some type of hero integrity.............. What a joke. If they don't have anything to do -------- let's lay them off for 6 or 8 months so they can really understand how that feels.

It's horrendous that state employees are being laid off left and right, people who do substantive work, while these folks have the audacity to declare they have nothing on the to-do list. For real working people, it is pretty much unacceptable to say something like that, even if it's true at the time.
