New Kinston Manager Setting Goals

Tony Sears started as Kinston's manager Wednesday. Sears says he wants to get to know the department heads and familiarize himself with Kinston before setting specific goals, but says he's used to solving tough issues. Before coming to Kinston, Sears managed the city of Randleman for 7 years and says he worked on a variety of problems there, including adding stability to the police department and connecting to a regional water system.

"My job as the city manager is to help identify the problems that we have, communicate that to the council and make sure that we're getting the resources that we need to the department heads, to the workers, the people out there pounding the streets- that I get them the resources that they need to do the job that we're asking them to do," said Sears.

Sears says he hopes to have a list of goals finished by the new year.

Hopefully his main goal is not lining his pocket at taxpayer expense.

I hope that Mr. Sears will advise the city that its needs to spend its money in its own town. As we are tax payers and its our revenue and taxes that are what pay the saleries of the workers. In the past to save dollars they go to out of county business. And in all actuality they have spent more in gas/manpower than they saved to get service in other counties. When they could have received the same service right here in their own back yard!!
