Tony Sears started as Kinston's manager Wednesday. Sears says he wants to get to know the department heads and familiarize himself with Kinston before setting specific goals, but says he's used to solving tough issues. Before coming to Kinston, Sears managed the city of Randleman for 7 years and says he worked on a variety of problems there, including adding stability to the police department and connecting to a regional water system.
"My job as the city manager is to help identify the problems that we have, communicate that to the council and make sure that we're getting the resources that we need to the department heads, to the workers, the people out there pounding the streets- that I get them the resources that they need to do the job that we're asking them to do," said Sears.
Sears says he hopes to have a list of goals finished by the new year.
