NC Lawmakers To Discuss Illegal Immigration

North Carolina lawmakers are considering whether to delve further into the nation's immigration debate by making it more uncomfortable for illegal immigrants to live in the state.

A House committee is meeting to discuss how the state should respond to illegal immigration and recommend changes to colleagues next spring.

Earlier this year, the new Republican-led General Assembly approved a requirement for local governments and many employers to check the immigration status of new hires.

Some legislators and anti-illegal immigration advocates want to go further and point to laws in Arizona and Alabama. Some worry tough laws in other states will draw more illegal immigrants to North Carolina. Those laws are being challenged in court.

Immigrant advocates like Maudia Melendez say North Carolina lawmakers are playing political games.

I have an idea: send the useless Americans to the 3rd world and keep the hard working illegals--put them on the track to becoming American citizens. Have you ever thought about what crime would be like if you completely disband all forms of government assistance? "Let them work or let them starve" How very Christian. Judge not, right? And yes, we can deport everybody, but have you considered what that would cost?? Not all illegals abuse the system--a good portion are scared to have any business with the government at all.

I agree...illegal=deport! Working in the hospital, I see so much abuse of the system! 16 year olds with their second or third child! And, guess what?? All of their hospital bills are paid for, they get WIC to provide food and formula while they are in the hospital talking on their Iphones! Blows my mind...

i am alson tired of supporting illegals, as well as the people who were born and raised here that do not want to do the hard labor the immigrants do. Immigrants are making a killing, living tax free, free groceries on our dollar. they are driving better vehicles and weraing better clothes than we are, and we are paying for theirs and can not afford to take care of our families like we should be able to. It boils my blood to get behind someone getting two carts full of food and use a government card while i am watching everything i pick up due to the amount of money i have in my pocket.

DNC won't let them do anything, they would be messing with their voter base. DNC won't let that happen.

If you are running your business with illegals then you are part of the problem. The maoney drain for supporting illegals cost the taxpayer billions, while business that hires them for their cheap labor and hard work makes the profit.

I have lived in NC all my life and hadn't had a good taco until the illegal invasion. If we get rid of all of them I will be force to eat Taco Bell!

They should begin by pulling ALL those incarcerated in NC of anything short of a capital crime and shipping them via plane to an airport in Mexico City. Land the plane, unload them on the tarmac, turn the plane around and come home. I'm TIRED of paying for illegals to be housed in our prisons.
