Congressman G. K. Butterfield joined tens of thousands of South Africans and world leaders in Johannesburg Tuesday for the memorial service for anti-apartheid revolutionary, Nobel Peace Prize recipient, and former South African President, Nelson Mandela.
Democratic Representative Butterfield says he met President Mandela on three occasions, most recently during his last visit to Washington.
"Each time it was an honor to sit at the feet of a transformational leader that made it his life’s purpose to pursue justice and equality," said Rep. Butterfield. “While we mourn the world's loss, we celebrate President Mandela's tremendous life. His legacy will continue to serve as an inspiration for all.”
