McCrory Campaign Had $4.4M Entering July

Republican Pat McCrory's bid for North Carolina governor is in a better financial position compared to his first run for chief executive four years ago.

McCrory's campaign says it had nearly $4.4 million in its coffers entering the second half of the year. The campaign also announced this week it raised $2.2 million between late April and June 30.

McCrory had about $700,000 in cash at the mid-year point of his 2008 campaign, in which he lost to Democrat Beverly Perdue. The big difference is McCrory had no significant primary opponent this year.

McCrory's Democratic rival in 2012 -- Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton -- hasn't released fundraising details. He had a tough primary fight.

Candidates have until Wednesday to turn in fundraising reports to the State Board of Elections.
