McCrory Distancing Himself From Comment About Perdue

Pat McCrory is distancing himself from a comment made by Wake County's Republican Party chairwoman in which she called Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue "the dumbest governor in America."

A spokesman for McCrory's gubernatorial campaign said Friday the former Charlotte mayor neither agrees nor condones the public comments of Wake GOP leader Susan Bryant on Thursday night shortly after McCrory's speech to nearly 2,000 party activists.

Earlier Friday, Wake County GOP spokesman Luther Snyder said Bryant stands by her comment and that she was being political, not personal. She pointed to actions and statements by the governor to defend it.

While McCrory touts running positive campaigns, he routinely blamed Perdue for a culture of corruption within state government in their 2008 general election campaign. Perdue isn't seeking re-election.
