Romney Adds To Delegate Lead With Maine Victory

Mitt Romney has added to his lead in the race for delegates with a narrow victory in the Maine Republican presidential caucuses.

The former Massachusetts governor won at least eight delegates, with six delegates left to be allocated, according to an analysis by The Associated Press. Texas Rep. Ron Paul won at least seven. Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich were shut out.

Maine's local caucuses were the first step of a multi-step process to determine the state's delegates to the national convention. Romney would win the most delegates, if the candidates maintain the same level of support throughout the process.

Romney leads the overall race for delegates, with 120. Santorum has 72, Gingrich has 32 and Paul has 16. It takes 1,144 delegates to win the nomination.

Previous Story:

Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster says Mitt Romney has won the Maine caucuses by a slim margin, giving him a much needed boost following losses in three other contests in the past week.

The former Massachusetts governor defeated Ron Paul, the only other GOP hopeful competing in the state. Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich did not actively participate in the contest.

Party leaders announced the results Saturday. The caucuses began February 4 and continued through the week. Some Maine communities have yet to hold their caucuses, though party leaders say they don't plan to count those votes.

Romney easily won the Maine caucuses in 2008.

Maine has 24 delegates to the party's national convention -- 21 of them were at stake in a process that began with the caucuses.

The negative rhetoric from the liberals and media heats up as they fear Mitt Romney's win as the Republican candidate. They know he is the only candidate that he can defeat Obama so they give positive rhetoric to Santorum. I look forward to seeing Mitt Romney's inauguration in January. Now will someone please remove this Straight Jacket, I promise to be nice, and put my crayons up.

I can't believe that the Republicans are going through the motions of picking a presidential nominee from among a group of crackpots. I just saw a TV clip of Rick Santorum saying that a woman who gets pregnant as a result of being raped should consider the child to be "a gift." This man is looney tunes! And he's the guy who's now leading in the polls to get the GOP presidential nomination?? God help this country if this guy is the best that the GOP can offer us for presidential material!

Romney is incapable of "defining" himself, because there is no form or unifying philosophy to his career. The only constant is his ambition and sense of personal "destiny". He is neither left, right, moderate nor anything else. A political Zelig.

I expect much of President Obama's negative polling comes from people who don't think he's liberal enough, and hyperpartisan right wing critics who aren't satisfied until the country's been sunk. Any normal Republican should look at the GOP contenders and say to themselves Obama is closer to them than anyone on that stage. If Obama continues to play the center like he has been he will get the democratic vote, the independent vote, and even a good chunk of rational republicans. This 2012 election will be a landslide in his favor and there isn't enough misinformation and distortion that could come out of Fox news to stop it.

Don't worry your pumkin heart there, Obama shot himself in the foot; The impact is stunning since 54 percent of Catholics voted for President Obama in 2008. Today, just 39 percent of Catholic voters approve of the way he's doing his job. Perhaps some strategists thought that Catholics would welcome government help in battling the church on birth control. But Catholics who disagree with the church deal with the situation in the privacy of their own bedroom. They don't need federal help. In fact, it is hard to imagine any person of faith wanting the federal government to have any say in church doctrine and how Holy Scripture should be applied. While Team Obama wanted to debate contraception, the Catholic League's Bill Donahue said it was unprecedented "for the federal government to line up against the Roman Catholic Church." Even The Washington Post, hometown paper for America's Political Class, thought the administration ruling went too far and "does not make an adequate accommodation for those deeply held views." When the Post thinks you've gone too far in imposing federal authority, it's a sure sign that you're pretty far out on a limb.

A new poll conducted Friday night( 2-10-2011) by Public Policy Polling shows Catholics support President Obama's rule change to the contraception coverage requirement at religious organizations. The poll of Catholic voters showed that 57% of Catholics support the new policy, which allows women who work at religiously-affiliated organizations like hospitals to get contraception cost-free as required under the Affordable Care Act through their insurer. 29% opposed the new policy for not going far enough while 5% opposed it because they think the original rule was fair. Catholic women support the compromise more than men. Respondents preferred Obama's position over Romney's opposition to any birth control coverage requirement 51% to 38% and Hispanic Catholics preferred Obama's 59% to 32%.

He lacks 111 electorial votes while anybody but Obama only needs 55 votes. Clearly you are losing touch with reality. Have you taken a look at the economic numbers lately - they just keep getting better and better. People will be voting on the numbers and unless the economy takes a nose dive before November Obama is going to win regardless of who the GOP is going to run. Watching the GOP debates has just been entertainment for those of us who know how this is going to turn out. You need to take off your rose colored glasses because unless something awful happens to the economy Obama will be a 2 term president.

Out of touch? Let me clarify it for you since you seem to buy the media hype from Media Matters, have you noticed gas prices? They are going back up. You prepared to pay $5? You are aware that Obama's new budget is reaching the GDP? You know about these economic numbers..if you don't ask someone in Greece what it means. The stock market is a timebomb or you are not paying attention to that either Mrs Informed on. Here is the scenario, unemployment is still over 8%, its not 5.5% like during the GOP years. Over 20% of young people are not working in this country, 25% of black youngsters. So if you think the economy is getting better as Obama spins it out there during an election year, you are buying a cash for clunkers car for full price. Keep this little tidbit in mind, gas prices will do him in, his poll ratings fell below Jimmy Carters months ago and we still haven't gotten through the primaries. No sitting president except Reagan ever got a second term, he recovered since he won the cold war. Also, his electorial college vote is 111 short while the challenge is only needing around 55. Note, the primaries are still going on, that number should be reversed.....say bye bye Bammy.

The state's delegates won't be selected for months and it sounded like Ron Paul managed to get more of his people into the group who will actually choose the delegates. These beauty contest caucuses and primaries are really meaningless and the media is only making things worse with inaccurate reporting.

Born rich, he has no idea of what it takes for a common person to make a living. He thinks corporations are people and unemployment is a joke. He has made millions on the misery of other by shutting down companies and/or moving jobs overseas. He hides his money in offshore accounts so he will personally be enriched but not contribute to the country that helped enrich him. He will say whatever, whenever, wherever he needs to to keep votes and has no core values. He values money over people. His tax plan will make the very poor pay more and the very rich pay less.
