The North Carolina Legislature is back at work in Raleigh after the Thanksgiving holiday.

They're poised to consider a bill that would eliminate a 2-year-old law giving prisoners the ability to use statistics to persuade a judge they're on death row because of racial bias.

On Monday a Senate committee is expected to consider a House bill that would essentially repeal the 2009 Racial Justice Act. Only one Senate floor vote is needed to send the bill to Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue. She signed the 2009 bill into law.

Before they go home Tuesday, lawmakers also could consider changes to the state gasoline tax. Without changing it, the tax will rise on Jan. 1 by 4 cents to nearly 39 cents a gallon.
