There are a lot of big city council races on the ballot including the Greenville District One race where incumbent Kandie Smith is running for her third term against political newcomer Clinton Ray Anderson Junior.
Councilwoman Smith is a social worker by trade and says her passion is the people.
For the past four years she has looked for ways to curb crime in her district and in the city.
Smith says, "I want to make sure we do more things for our youth. We have a lot of crime that's happening if we don't find anything to be able to assist or support groups that are willing to do things then that crime is going to increase."
Pastor Anderson has never held office, but says he felt compelled to do something to help the youth.
He says he would like to see more community watch organizations along with a reduction of crime.
He says, "I would love to see more jobs, more opportunities for those who are unemployed. I would also like to see a community watch and community organizations be a little more organized and if someone comes to the city hall with a complaint there's an organized group."
