Greenville Drivers Speak Out On Obama's Plan To Lower Gas Prices

As many of us know, when the temperatures get warmer, the prices at the pump get higher. Wednesday President Obama was in North Carolina talking about his energy policy. He believes the country can wean itself from oil.

President Obama says families and companies who invest in energy efficient cars will receive a number of incentives from the government.

"If you make a commitment to buy more advanced vehicles for your community, whether they run on electricity or bio-fuels or natural gas, we'll help you cut through the red tape and build fueling stations nearby; and we'll offer tax breaks to families that buy these cars, companies that buy alternative fuel trucks, like the ones that are made right here in Mount Holly. So we're going to give communities across the country more of an incentive to make the shift to more energy efficient cars," said President Obama.

Some drivers are in favor of Obama's stragegy, including Aaron Johnson. "I hope they go down pretty soon because it's getting kind of ridiculous," said Johnson.

Some people we spoke with don't think the president's plan will help.
"It's not really going to help us out a lot because we still have to dish out the money for the cars. I think dropping the gas prices would help better,"said one local driver.

Analysts say that doesn't appear to be something that's going to happen anytime soon.

Several companies are on board with Obama's plan to reduce the country's oil dependency. Daimler trucks says it will meet new fuel efficiency standards by the 2013 model year. Under the new rules, trucks and buses built at the plant are projected to reduce oil consumption by 530 million barrels and greenhouse gas emissions by 270 million metric tons.

Elizabeth -- you did a great job of hitting all the Dems talking points on why the U.S. should be paying what Europe is paying for gas. You missed one HUGE point and that is.....think how much FUEL and POLLUTION could be saved if my children could attend the school they could WALK to instead of being bussed around for an hour before AND after school. Look at all the savings....oh, wait. It was the Dems who instituted FORCED busing. So much for that idea. Thanks Obummer for killing the pipeline, jobs, and lower gas prices for the peons you and Moochelle rule over.

I would warn against complaining about gas prices if you drive a truck or SUV that only gets 8-15 mpg. It's about time human beings take responsibility for their habits and choices, and not inflate their egos via style over practicality. Live closer to work, support and take advantage of other forms of transportation (bicycles/carpooling/public transit) besides single passenger vehicles, advocate for smart city planning where resources are in close proximity to housing and recreational pathways, bike lanes, and community spaces are emphasized. Instead of complaining, how about a little reflection on personal lifestyles? I personally hope gas prices rise, and people are forced to take responsibility for their wasteful habits that affect the larger community and environment.

Gas prices aren't to high! Drive by your local high school and see how many kids are still driving to school instead of riding that free bus!

Well enjoy the hope and change and Obamagas; In 2008, Obama’s Energy Secretary Steven Chu told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that he wanted to ramp up gasoline taxes over the next 15 years until they eventually were consistent with Europe’s rates. “Somehow, we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” he stated clearly. Why? According to the WSJ, the wildly increased prices would “coax consumers into buying more-efficient cars and living in neighborhoods closer to work.” [That's WSJ's paraphrase, not Chu's exact quote.] Now, four years later, Chu has come remarkably close to achieving his goal (albeit a little too rapidly), and the American people are not pleased. With gasoline prices at record highs, and approval numbers at record lows, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) asked Chu at a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Tuesday whether he still wants America’s gas prices at Europe levels, which could more than double our current rates. According to the National Journal, “Chu seemed to equivocate, pause, and stumble over his words when responding to Lee’s question about high gas prices,” but ultimately stated, “I no longer hold that view.” When asked whether he regretted his 2008 statement, Chu said “let me not comment on that.” However, 2008 was not the only time Mr. Chu has made a remark hinting that he’s okay with higher gas prices.

You mention all of this but yet don't mention anything about the corporate welfare that oil companies receive. Do you really think that the republicans are going to fix this, other than more subsidies?

First to clarify this for ya, its not susidies, its tax credits. Secondly, oil companies may 6%-7% profit...try making your company live off, that so it leaves speculators. Republicans will strike the prices down with a pen, just like Bush did. Just mere mention of domestic drilling, sent prices to 30 bucks a barrel. History holds true and Bush wasn't the only one to do that, democrats like Carter did too. Use a little common sense here, how often have you heard a president say we are investigating big oil for profit gaugeing? Can you tell me how many were charged or even if they found anything? This is why I don't trust libterds on this matter, they voice a opinion not based on facts but on rhetoric. Thats as good as garbage to the dump, nothing but rhetoric. This price of gas Obama wanted, now hes got it and if you voted for him, you wanted hope and change, suck it up.

Why don't Barack and other crooked politicians help these struggling citizens help pay for these cars with that money they have stolen from the taxpayers. Otherwise it wont work.

Here are 14 good reasons their are many, many more to vote for Hope N Change in 2012 - LOL? 1,Obama by denying the Keystone pipeline through the U.S.A. denied us of jobs & cheaper gas at the pump. 2, Apologizing to Arabs and making friends of radical Muslims. 3, The Obama apologizing world tour, Blaming the U.S.A. of the world's troubles. 4, Guaranteeing $2 billion in loans to Brazil's Petrobras oil company. Allowing our people to teach them how to work. Funny George Soros owns tons of stock shares in Petrobras, according to Bloomberg.com. 5, Obama claims we may purchase this oil, but it going to China 6, The president never was experienced and seems inapt at his job. 7, Still blames George W. Bush for the high price of gas after 4 years since Bush was in office. 8, Lost opportunity in Iran when he had chance to support the uprising. 9, Threw Israel to the dogs. 10, 50% do not pay taxes. Would add taxes to the 1% who pay and earn the most. Funny Obama's GE & Company CEO who was a big Obama money donor in 2008 payed no taxes in 2011 11, Forcing Catholic or other religious hospitals to do or pay for abortions. 12, Forcing religious groups to supply contraceptives to employees. 13, Incompetent. 14, Not following US Constitution Just a few good reasons to vote again in 2012 for our Liar N Chief. LOL.

I can understand why the Obama haters are so upset. Heck I would be mad too if it's only march and I already knew the Party that im supporting was going to lose in November. So Republicans I guess you have a right to be mad. You should blame it on the radicals in your Party though.
