Governor McCrory Tours Areas With Worst Flooding From Heavy Rains

MARSHALL, N.C. (AP) - Several days of heavy rain are causing flooding and landslides in western North Carolina, where roads are closed because of storm damage.

On Friday, Gov. Pat McCrory and other state officials toured some of the hardest-hit areas in Madison County. Crews with the state Transportation Department are assessing the damage and determining the best way to repair roads.

But in some areas, the water is still too high to determine the full impact of the storms.

In Caldwell County, emergency management coordinator Ken Teague says several roads in the northern part of the county were closed Friday. In addition, visitors were asked to leave a campground because of rising waters near a creek.

National Weather Service meteorologists say the rain that fell in North Carolina for more than a week is easing.
