The tax free weekend is upon us and plenty of people are hitting the stores to save a few bucks, including the governor.

Governor Beverly Perdue spent much of the morning Friday shopping for school supplies at the New Bern Wal Mart for this school year.

Perdue grabbed a school supply list for Albert H. Bangert Elementary School in Craven County. She said that was the school her children attended.

The governor picked out supplies for both students and teachers for a total just shy of $200.00 Perdue says, "It's fun to come into a store anywhere in North Carolina or America and think about the kids that are starting school without the proper stuff, the notebook paper, the pencils and the pens, all the things that you need to start school with, and so it has been something I can do and I love coming in and figuring out what kids like."

The tax free weekend continues through midnight Sunday.
