GOP: No Replacement For Rep. LaRoque

Republican Party officials say they will not replace Rep. Stephen LaRoque after his indictment on theft charges.

The News-Argus of Goldsboro reported party officials have concluded there is no reason to replace him before the November election.

LaRoque resigned after being indicted on four counts of theft through converting federal loan proceeds and four counts of engaging in monetary transactions with criminally derived funds.

LaRoque had lost his re-election bid in the May primary.

Wayne GOP Chairman Bob Jackson said Tuesday he had spoken with Lenoir County party officials and they decided there is no need for a replacement since the General Assembly is not in session. Jackson said he had not talked with Greene County officials.

The Kinston lawmaker's district includes parts of all three counties.
