First Lady Michelle Obama Plans Raleigh, Charlotte Visit Friday

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- First lady Michelle Obama is planning to visit Raleigh and Charlotte to meet with military families, school children and to make remarks in advance of this summer's Democratic National Convention in the Queen City.

The White House says Obama will be in North Carolina on Friday, arriving in Raleigh to meet active duty military personnel and their families. She's also scheduled to address a Democratic National Committee reception.

Later that day, she's slated to arrive in Charlotte to promote the "Let's Move!" fitness program with children before the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament. She also plans to speak at two Democratic events.

North Carolina is a crucial state in President Barack Obama's re-election strategy. Last week, Vice President Joe Biden visited Davidson County Community College.
