DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Two of the three candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for North Carolina governor took aim at the Republican-controlled General Assembly during a debate.
State Sen. Bill Faison and former U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge discussed the issues during a 30-minute debate streamed on Durham television station WTVD's website Wednesday. They attacked GOP lawmakers on everything from cuts to education spending to how they conducted business in the Legislature.
The two men disagreed on the issue of fracking, with Faison saying he was opposed while Etheridge supported the idea. Etheridge responded by saying more study was needed on the method for harvesting trapped gas before the state makes a decision.
Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton's campaign says he didn't participate because the compact primary election schedule doesn't allow him to attend each forum.
