Edwards Campaign Owes Taxpayers But Still Spending

Federal elections officials say John Edwards owes taxpayers $2.1 million in public matching funds improperly received after the former North Carolina senator dropped his 2008 run for the White House, yet disclosure reports show his failed campaign is still spending.

Edwards' hopes for the Democratic nomination imploded in a sex scandal four years ago. Reports filed last week show his 2008 campaign spent $836,712 in 2011 on airfare, hotels, phones and other expenses.

Attempts to contact Edwards or his campaign were unsuccessful. People listed as receiving some of the $266,000 in campaign payroll declined to talk.

Edwards got nearly $13 million in federal funds in 2008, most of it after he quit the race amid reports of his extramarital affair. He has pleaded not guilty to pending criminal charges.

Can someone explain to me why the taxpayers have not gotten their money back? It did not take 3 years for him to get 2.1 million. The people responsible for getting this money back should be fired. They are not being held accountable.

I had no intentions of voting for him had he won the nomination. There was just something about him. Idiot! His poor wife was dying & slapped her in the face by having an affair & child. I htink he is only sorry because he got caught.

I think we can all agree there are snakes on both sides of the aisle. However a few have raised the bar to gold metal status. There should be billboards in the state apologizing to the people for John Edwards, Mike Easley, Jim Black, Beverly Perdue and some others of less prominence. We have got to do better. Edwards came close to being vice president. How does John Kerry feel about choosing this scumball. He has not one time said, oops I made a mistake.
