Dalton Comfortable With Style As NC Gov's Hopeful

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton was first out of the box to run for the Democratic nomination for governor after incumbent Beverly Perdue decided not to seek re-election. Now he's traveling the state trying to remind people why he should be their choice to win the nomination.

Dalton has served in the Senate and the second-highest executive branch job over the past 15 years.

Dalton told likely Democratic primary voters at a Goldsboro restaurant last week he's committed to preserving and expanding improvements in public education. He argues Republicans are trying to reverse those improvements through budget cuts.

Dalton says his state Senate victories and his winning the 2008 election for lieutenant governor prove he can beat likely GOP nominee Pat McCrory.
