RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The Wake County District Attorney's office has dropped a trespassing charge against a Raleigh woman who was arrested at a local protest convened by the Occupy movement.
The state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union said the case against 57-year-old Margaret Schucker was dismissed Tuesday. The group represented Schucker after her arrest last October.
Schucker was arrested in front of the old State Capitol building after protesters were expelled from the site. Schucker, who said she needed to sit in a chair because of a disability, was charged with trespassing after she refused to move.
Katy Parker, legal director of the state ACLU chapter, says the decision to drop the charge is a victory for the First Amendment.
