Comments from Third District Republican Congressman Walter Jones are overshadowing testimony from Marine General John Allen -- the top commander in Afghanistan --before the House Armed Services Committee.
During questioning about the timetable for troop withdrawal and the cost of the war and borrowed money, Jones made the remark.
Jones said, "What is the metric? What is the event that the administration and General Allen, you, sir, are gonna be candid with the United States Congress, and more important than the Congress, the American people, as we are spending $10 billion a month that we can't even pay for. The Chinese -- Uncle Chang -- is lending us the money to pay that we're spending in Afghanistan."
Congressman Jones' office has not commented on his remarks.
