Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield has won a fifth term.
Butterfield easily defeated Republican challenger Pete DiLauro in the 1st Congressional District, which was redrawn by Republicans to include more minorities and Democratic voters so the GOP could compete in other districts.
In partial, unofficial returns Tuesday, Butterfield captured 75 percent of the vote.
The 65-year-old Democrat also is an adviser to President Barack Obama's campaign.
The newly-drawn 1st District includes areas of Durham, then heads east.
