Burr Blogs About Visit To Guantanamo Prison Camp

North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr has blogged about his recent visit to the Guantanamo Bay prison camp, recommending the United States focus on where to place detainees if the facility closes.

Burr praised the Cuban base's staff in a Monday evening blog post. He defended the guard force, and added how they had endured verbal and physical attacks from detainees.

Stating he was "immensely impressed" with the base, Burr said the U.S. must think "long and hard" about where to place detainees instead of focusing on closing the facility.

The visit was in response to President Barack Obama's executive order to close the facility within one year. Burr has expressed that he is not convinced it is in the country's best national security interest to move the prisoners to the U.S.

Too bad the chosen one bowed down to special interrest and did this. Good is that Burr sees the problem as it really exists. To use the word change is not always a good thing. Yea, he is making change but where is he going to send this detainees? I vote California since Pelosi wanted this. Of course California doesn't want them either. You have one year to figure out you will need to keep them in Gitmo.

I believe that our president have a good reason for the closing of this prison. However, I agree that it is not a good idea to move terroist to the US.

Sen Burr is right again, as usual. I'm glad North Carolina still has at least one level headed, right thinking senator who doesn't shift positions with the political tides. Watch and learn Kay!

Maybe if the Bleeding Hearts think we've treated the terrorist too cruelly we ought to set them free in DC. If they've nice people they shouldn't harm anyone if they're as bad as Coservatives say at least if they hurt some people in DC they have more Liberals in that town than anywhere else.

Good point by Sen. Burr. Its so easy to call for the closing of Guant. But Obamy didnt think where to put the remaining 911 detainees.

Mr. Burr; Perhaps you should take some of your liberal counter parts down for a visit. See if it helps them rethink their positions.
