"SHHH!" Jill Biden Slips Up On Oprah

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The wife of Vice President-elect Joe Biden let it slip to Oprah Winfrey Monday that her husband had a pick of two jobs in the Obama administration. Jill Biden said President-elect Barack Obama gave Biden the choice of being secretary of state or vice president. The vice president-elect tried to hush his wife as soon as the words came out of her mouth, with a loud "shhh!" that sent the audience into laughter.

The Bidens made a surprise appearance on Winfrey's show, recorded at the Kennedy Center for broadcast later Monday on the eve of the inauguration. The celebrity-filled show also included the premiere of "America's Song," performed by Faith Hill, Seal, Bono, Mary J. Blige, Will.i.am and David Foster in honor of the occasion and available for free download on Winfrey's Web site.

The vice president-elect said he only accepted Obama's offer to be his running mate after talking it over with "Jilly," his pet name for his wife. Mrs. Biden said she told him vice president would be better for the family.

"If you're secretary of state, you'll be away, we'll never see you, you know," she said. "I'll see you at a state dinner once and awhile. But I said, if you are vice president, the entire family, because they worked so hard for the election, they can be involved. They can come to our home. They can go to events, they can be with us all the time. And that's what's important to us."

Obama's transition office did not immediately respond to a request for comment about whether he was offered both jobs. Obama gave the secretary of state job to Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The vice president-elect didn't address his wife's comments, but said didn't immediately take the vice presidential offer since he wasn't sure it was the best place for him to serve. But Biden, who ran against Obama in the Democratic primary race, said he agreed after getting some assurances from Obama about his role.

"This is a partnership," Biden said. "He's president of the United States, but as I said to him when he asked me, I said, `Barack, don't ask me unless the reason you're asking me is, you're asking me for my judgment. I get to be the last guy in the room before you make every important decision. You're president. Any decision you make, I will back.' "

"He said he wanted to have a confidant and somebody who wouldn't be a yes man. He's pretty sure about that" last part, Biden said with a laugh.

Winfrey also interviewed movie star couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher about how Obama has inspired them to pledge to help end slave labor around the world. Other celebrities, including Scarlett Johansson, Justin Timberlake and Forest Whitaker appeared by videotape to talk about what Obama's election means to them.

Winfrey, who made her first ever presidential endorsement for Obama, heralded the significance of the moment particularly coming the day after Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

"I feel like I am better because of his being elected," Winfrey said. "And I think that the country is going to be better. I feel like it is a beautiful thing, and we all start to see ourselves differently, the possibility."

Winfrey ended the show by singing along with the musicians to the chorus of "America's Song," written by Foster and Will.i.am at Oprah's request. She said the performance came together in a week and is available for free download on Oprah.com for 24 hours after the show's airing.

Blog Refuter...what are you talking about? I said nothing about the "South" rising again...save your comments, please. You make no sense. Simply read my comment again and do some research. NO, we have never been a WHOLE mainly because of individuals who see themselves as superior and think that now, its "their time". Next thing we hear is that some people are going to want the white house name to be changed and the colors of the flag changed. I choose not to go into more details on my comment because its not worth it typing on here.

Alpo, please stop mixing the stuff for me up with a bunch of other crap that I don't care about. Speaking of tingling, I bet Ben, Rob and Coach M were tingling like gangbusters all day Tuesday. I can understand women like you and the blog refluter getting excited about the Chicago hustler because he has a rock star aura to you lefties. The same sex fawning though, that is disturbing to me. I thought I explained to you once before that it is strong, intelligent, educated, professional, classic beauties like Sarah Palin, Michele Bachman and Cindy McCain who make me...well..impress me.

The fluter, still spinning fairy tales. This one wasn't very entertaining, flute. It was choppy, full of holes and the whole religious aspect of it just didn't work because of your lack of knowledge on the subject. But, as always, KEEP FLUTING. I will critique your next entry because I told you I would help you grasshopper. Wax on, wax off!

You are not alone my friend...and I hope each of these people will bring their "A" game... because I'm going to take as far as the moderators will let me! Things look a little more even now. Alpha Female, you are too funny! :.) But what you stated is true. Thaddeus (Tad), yes He is vengeful, indeed. Confused, it's okay, you don't have to be confused any longer because you can call yourself whatever you like. Technically, everyone can call themselves African American. After all, a long time ago (in Pangea days after the supercontinent began to break apart), Northwestern Africa was connected to the present-day Southeastern United States. How ironic? In fact, Africa was connected to all of America. And God said he would spread their descendants all over the world. So he parted the lands and created what we call the oceans. Every "race" of people has been spread throughout the world. Doesn't God work in mysterious ways? And he said he will bring them all back together again. What will that encompass? Well, millions of years from now, there just might be a supercontinent once again. You know, we are always in motion! God loves! God saves! And I believe! Peace/Shalom/Salaam.

Tad...I knew you missed me. I laughed every time you got one of the guys with that *thighs* comment. It was the funnest thing to me...only a silly, immature mind could think of something so childish.... it reminded me of my son when he was 3yrs old. President Obama's father is from Kenya..and Kenya is where..tick tock..AFRICA, Obama's white mother had Obama where..tick tock...Hawaii..America. Put those two things together...AFRICAN AMERICAN. Wow..That was a brain buster for someone! Tad...I'm sure I make you thighs...nevermind...doesn't comply with the rules! I'll be glad when you are over this crush... you are just my court jester....*clap clap* ..now go make me laugh!
