North Carolina's former deputy state budget director is Gov. Beverly Perdue's choice to head the agency.
Perdue named Charlie Perusse budget director Monday. He was deputy for six years under director David McCoy until last August. That's when he was named acting director after McCoy became state controller.
Perusse will carry out the budget directives made by the state Legislature. He's also been in charge of ensuring state agencies
trimmed spending when then-Gov. Mike Easley held back money to
narrow this year's budget shortfall.
Perusse used to work as a budget analyst for the General Assembly.
