Inauguration Tickets A Hot Commodity For North Carolinians

A ticket to see history is turning into a very hot ticket, especially for North Carolinians.

The News and Observer says thousands in our state have requested tickets to Barack Obama's Presidential Inauguration. People can ask their Congressman or U-S Senator for tickets.

The tickets are free, but ticket brokers are selling them for thousands of dollars. Reportedly, a pair of tickets have sold already for more than ten thousand dollars.

The Senate Committee overseeing the Inauguration says ticket brokers don't actually have the tickets they're selling--tickets do not get distributed until the week before the Inauguration. The details about attending the inauguration are online at inaugural.senate.gov.

Anonymous 11-11 1:26. I agree, it's been a long 8 years. I'm looking forward to the Obama/Biden years. I'd love to get hold of tickets, but I'll prob. just watch on TV.

I wouldn't put a down payment on any of these tickets. Supposedly, Pelosi is going to introduce a bill to make it a crime to sell Inaugural tickets. I can't help but wonder how many unscrupulous people will be selling the same tickets to several different "customers" whether the bill passes or not. (Looks like there may be easier targets for possible ticket scams than there ever has been for a Sugar Bowl or Super Bowl game). Of course the question could be asked: If tickets are available only through Senators and Representives (free to those who request them), where are the brokers getting (expecting to get) the tickets they are selling? I think our Congresspersons should think very carefully about how they determine who gets tickets. Paying off political debts through Inaugural Tickets (otherwise known as politics as usual) would be an ironic way to start the Obama administration of CHANGE.

Get over yourselves haters. People who voted for Gore and Kerry had 8 years of feeling like throwing inaugural tickets in the fire, but we got over it. Grow up! Life goes on.
