Perdue Elected NC's First Female Governor

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory has conceded the North Carolina's governor's race to Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue.

Perdue, the state's lieutenant governor, succeeds Gov. Mike Easley, who was barred by term limits from running for a third term.

The Republican McCrory gave a brief speech Tuesday night at a Charlotte hotel as partial and unofficial results showed him about 3 percentage points behind the Democratic winner.

McCrory said: "This was not the night we had planned, but I accept the voters' conclusions from North Carolina."

Perdue was expected to address her supporters later Tuesday.

Joy! Four more years of Easley! Guess his wife's job and 88% raise are secure now.

Sorry to hear Pat McCrory lost such a close race. I agree he ran a very clean campaign and feel he has what it takes to be a governor. I lived in Charlotte for a while and saw first hand the good things this man did as mayor.

Pat MCCrory led such a dignified and clean campaign. He like the other Mc showed honor and has earned much respect. I hope to see him run again. Bev needs to take note of his campaign ideaology. Promote Thyself instead of slinging garbage. You earn more respect that way. Best of Luck to all North Carolinians!

Thank goodness Governor Perdue pulled through. We now have hope for Law Enforcement, State Employees, and for the small rural areas!
