Obama's Grandmother Dies A Day Before Election

Barack Obama says that his grandmother has died.

The Democratic presidential candidate announced the news in a joint statement with his sister Maya Soetoro-Ng. He said his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, had died peacefully after a battle with cancer.

He said: "She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances."

The candidate learned of her death Monday morning while he was campaigning in Jacksonville, Fla. He planned to go ahead with campaign appearances.

Late last month, Obama took a break from campaigning and flew to Hawaii to be with the 86-year-old Dunham, who helped raise him.

Now this is one time that I agree with WITN as far as posting...this is not the appropriate site to be "debating", this is only for the prayers and respect for his grandmother..so thanks witn for doing that. Obama, and your grandfather...sorry for the lost.just know that she is still with you no matter what. I believe that she loved you and your love for her shows very strongly. Just stay strong and you will reep your reward at the end. God Bless you and good luck with the race...

Thank you kindly. I apologize if I came across as brash, but I took exception to the negativity in a time of a person's loss of a loved one. Once again thank you and God bless you

May she rest in peace as she smiles down on her grandson tomorrow as he becomes our new President. God bless the Obama family at this time of their great loss as well as their historical victory and achievement. I'm sure that it will be a bittersweet day for Barack and his family.

I'm saddened to hear the loss of Obama's Grandmother. I pray for peace and comfort to his family. It appears she was so dear to him, like most Grandmothers. May God Bless her soul throughout eternity!!!
