Special Operations Command Dedicates Memorial

Memorial stones will be placed in the plaza at the Army Special Operations Command headquarters to honor veterans from special units created during the Vietnam War.

The ceremony on Friday honors members of Project DELTA and
Special Forces Detachment B-52.

Project DELTA was started in 1964 as a covert operation in which
a Green Beret detachment trained Vietnamese to conduct long-range
reconnaissance patrols.

Detachment B-52 was created by the 5th Special Forces Group to oversee the training and provide support, including raids and hunter-killer missions.

The projects, which were deactivated in 1970, included about 100
U.S. Special Forces soldiers and more than 1,200 soldiers from
South Vietnam.
