WW II Pilots Reunite In Fayetteville

More than 125 veteran cargo pilots are reuniting at at Pope Air Force base 64 years after they left to fight World War II.

This is the first time the Troop Carrier Groups' annual reunion
has been held at Pope.

Many of the cargo pilots trained at the base
before flying combat missions over dozens of battlefields in
Africa, the Pacific, China, Burma and India.

The reunion is hosted by the U.S. Air Force Reserve's 440th
Airlift Wing. The 440th is the direct descendant of the 440th Troop
Carrier Group that trained at Pope in 1943.
