Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole reports having $1.7 million in cash to spend on her re-election bid and holds twice as much money as her Democratic rival.
Fundraising reports reviewed by The Associated Press show that Dole raised about $3.1 million in the third quarter ending Sept. 30.
Democratic state Sen. Kay Hagan reported raising $2.6 million with nearly $900,000 left to spend.
Both candidates posted declines in the money available to their campaign as each was on the airwaves with a steady stream of television ads. Dole entered the third quarter with $2.7 million.
Hagan had $1.2 million.
Hagan has also been buoyed by millions of dollars in spending from attack ads targeting Dole from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
