The state attorney general's office said today that one of Senate leader Marc Basnight's candidates to the state appraiser's oversight board conforms with the law.
Basnight appointed Kill Devil Hills real estate lawyer Sidney
Jessup to the North Carolina Appraisal Board. A state law that
requires the seat be filled by someone not involved in the
Basnight's asked Attorney General Roy Cooper's office for a
legal opinion after an Associated Press report that the appointment
appeared to violate the law's requirements.
Special deputy attorney general Thomas Miller wrote to Basnight
office's today stressing that Jessup's real estate law practice
doesn't make her ineligible for service on the appraisal board.
