Biden: McCain Waging War Against Organized Labor

CASTLEWOOD, Va. (AP) -- Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says Republican John McCain is helping President Bush wage war against organized labor.

Biden told a union picnic Saturday that McCain has been an accomplice in dismantling protections that safeguarded the economy in general and workers' rights in particular.

Hundreds of southwestern Virginia coal mining families cheered as Biden accused Bush of putting anti-labor, corporate interests in charge of the U.S. Labor Department and the National Labor Relations Board.

Biden's visit was the third since June by him or Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama to the rural, blue-collar southwestern tip of Virginia, a battleground state that hasn't voted for a Democrat for president in 44 years.
