President Bush In Texas For Gustav Briefings

President Bush is calling Hurricane Gustav a "serious event."

He's in Texas for briefings on the storm, which came ashore this morning in Louisiana as a Category-2 hurricane.

Bush received an hourlong briefing aboard Air Force One. He's visiting a Texas Emergency Operations Center in Austin and a command center in San Antonio to learn more.

The president canceled a speech to the Republican National Convention tonight because of the hurricane. But Laura Bush has decided to speak as scheduled.

On the morning talk shows today, the first lady said lessons have been learned from Hurricane Katrina. She told CNN that "mistakes were made by everyone" at all levels of government in the handling of Katrina three years ago.

She said communication was poor among local, state and federal officials. But she says "we have taken care of that."

He can be briefed anywhere. I am sure the only reason he is in Texas is so all the liberal whiners won't be able to say he doesn't care. Never mind the fact that it has never been the President's responsibility to over see a natural disaster. It is a shame that he feels the need to placate the left again! I am sure the situation is well in hand thanks to Governor Bobby Jindl's leadership. Babbling Blanco is most likely far away.
