White House Race Looms Over State GOP Convention

A number of Republican candidates mentioned the race for president during their speeches at the GOP's state convention today.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory tied his opponent, Lt. Gov. Bev Perdue, to Democratic hopeful Barack Obama, saying she would likely go along with the Illinois senator's "liberal policies."

And GOP Sen. Elizabeth Dole never mentioned her own opponent, but slammed Obama on several issues.

But the unpopular current president also factored into discussions.

Dole emphatically said that President Bush is not on the ticket and described how the two have differed on issues such as climate change and illegal immigration.
