White House Race Looms Over State GOP Convention

A number of Republican candidates mentioned the race for president during their speeches at the GOP's state convention today.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory tied his opponent, Lt. Gov. Bev Perdue, to Democratic hopeful Barack Obama, saying she would likely go along with the Illinois senator's "liberal policies."

And GOP Sen. Elizabeth Dole never mentioned her own opponent, but slammed Obama on several issues.

But the unpopular current president also factored into discussions.

Dole emphatically said that President Bush is not on the ticket and described how the two have differed on issues such as climate change and illegal immigration.

I've always been a Republican and conservative. Although McCain is not exactly a conservative, more moderate I would say, he will need to choose a conservative of VP. Obama is ultra-liberal and all the possible names being slung around for his VP spot have also been liberal, no balanced ticket. Lord help us if Obama wins. We may have to suffer for it but an Obama disaster would give Republicans control back for another 30 years. The stock market drop on Friday was portrayed by the media as a reult of a big increase in oil prices. Prices of crude has been going up all along without big drops in the market. I believe the big drop was caused by uneasiness with Clinton dropping out and strongly endorsing her opponent.

I've never been more disgusted with the Presidential candidates as I am right now. I'm a registered Republican so I'm not voting for Obama. I'm a conservative so I'm not voting for McCain. God I miss Ronald Reagan!
