Senator Barack Obama Appears On WITN

Senator Barack Obama was interviewed on WITN News at Sunrise Tuesday morning. The presidential contender spoke via satellite from Indianapolis. Tuesday is also the primary in Indiana.

Obama defended his decision to oppose a federal gas tax holiday, calling it a "gimmick." Obama said he has a plan to offer more "meaningful relief" to families with a $1,000 tax break. Obama said that money would help with gas, groceries and other expenses families face.

When asked why his rival, Hillary Clinton, has been able to cut into his lead in the polls in North Carolina, Obama said, "We've had a couple of very bad weeks when it came to press and my former pastor making some statements I had to denounce. And Senator Clinton is formidable. And Bill Clinton has been traveling the state, so they've got a couple of seasoned politicians who have been working very hard."
