Obama Says Clinton Criticism Not Racially Motivated

Barack Obama has been trying to shift the Democratic presidential debate away from comments he made about bitter voters in small towns, but the issue is not going away.

Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain have called the remarks
elitist. And Clinton has begun airing an ad in Pennsylvania that
shows voters saying they were insulted by the comment.

At a town-hall style meeting in western Pennsylvania today, a
voter told Obama he was angered by Clinton's response. He said "as
a white person" he believes that Clinton's use of the term
"elitist" is nearly the same as saying Obama was being
"uppity." He said somebody should tell Clinton she's playing on
racial prejudice.

Obama says he doesn't believe race was a factor in Clinton's
strategy. He responded by saying that politicians go on the attack
when they start falling behind.
