Plans Scrapped For Gubernatorial Debate

Both Democratic gubernatorial candidates Beverly Perdue and Richard Moore were planning to take part in a statewide debate, but that apparently won't happen.

Perdue had asked the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters to facilitate the debate. A tentative date had been set. Now that has been scrapped because the association couldn't agree on a debate for the Republicans.

Those working on organizing the debates, say in the interest of fairness, the association should not go forward with a statewide broadcast of a Democratic Debate if an acceptable date could not be found for the four leading Republican Candidates.
