WATCH VIDEO: Hurricanes Churning In Atlantic & Pacific Causing High Surf Conditions

(NBC News) It's a surfer's paradise along the Southern California coast.

Epic sized swells are being created by Hurricane Marie, churning hundreds of miles away in the ocean. Once a Category 5 storm, it's still packing a powerful punch.

"This is extremely rare," says Captain Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority. "During the winter we get significant storms here, but during the summer this is the first time in over 25 years we have every had a summer storm like this cause damage, this significant along the coastline."

It's not just the West Coast getting hit with high surf. Hurricane Cristobal is churning in the Atlantic, causing rip currents and high tides from Florida through the Midatlantic states. It's expected to impact the northeast by the end of the week.
