Van Der Sloot Trial Begins Today

Joran Van Der Sloot will go on trial today in Lima for the 2010 murder of a Peruvian woman.

The Dutch citizen, who was arrested after the 2005 disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba but never convicted, has been in a Peruvian jail since June of 2010.

Prosecutors in Peru have pushed for a tough sentence, but Van Der Sloot said his rights were violated during his detention and arrest. Van Der Sloot has filed motions to have his signed and taped confession thrown out.
