Students Protest Valedictorian's Deportation Order

A high school valedictorian in Miami has been ordered by a federal immigration judge to leave the country.

Daniela Pelaez is planning on appealing the judge's order. She came to the United States from Colombia with her family when she was 4. She considers herself American and has applied to several Ivy League universities with the dream of becoming a heart surgeon.

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman says the agency will not take any action against Pelaez while she pursues her legal options.

More than 2,000 students protested outside North Miami High School on Friday.

While they are rounding her up and getting her paper work ready to send her back to her homeland, they should round up half of Miami and send them back with her, before they eat up more of my tax money. She may very well put a legal citizens out of a spot in a top school, based on the fact that she is a minority. You can't pick and choose who stays and who goes. Illegal is illegal, period. Treat them all the same. Tired of paying illegals way when my own go without. Enough

Amen!!!! Our country is financially strapped partly because of supporting illegal people who do not pay into the system. If we were to flood Mexico, they would run us out immediately. It seems to be a double standard. What gets me is that we allow the Mexicans to flood into our country but we will send other nationalities back before they barely even touch the soil. Why are the Mexicans allowed in and others are not? This government needs to wise up before it is too late. Stop paying for those who are not paying in to the system. When you cut off their resources, they will go home. As long as they get government help without proving citizenship, they are NOT going to go back. Why would they want to?

Our country is financially strapped because our own people think they are entitled to the government (which really means those of us who work for a living) paying their food, rent, utilities, car, entertainment, medical, childcare, etc...

This is a very unfortunate situation, but if we bend the law for one, then everyone will think he/she can get away with it. Since she's such a bright young lady, maybe her road to citizenship can be expedited and all of her college education can be covered by private scholarships. However, I honestly don't think illegal immigration will ever completely end (as unfortunate as this might be with the country in hard times).

What about all those Africans that were brought over here in the slave trade 200 years ago? Aren't they illegal, too?

Blame the yankees, they owned all the ships. Blame the portugese, they sailed the ships and bought them on the beach. By the way, they are all dead now.

Let the girl stay and deport her parents . We need to start to charge everyone that come to the America a lump sum if they want free food and health care . I pay taxes and find it hard to make ends meet.

What part of ILLEGAL don't you understand?? And in this case why would you want to deprive backwards third-world countries of their "brain trust"?

For real. The valedictorian didn't know they weren't a citizen and/or didn't make any arrangements in, let's say,FOURTEEN YEARS to become a citizen? Sounds like your valedictorian is not the brightest.
