Strong Jobs Report Sends Dow To Highest Since '08

The Dow Jones industrial average has closed at its highest level since before the 2008 financial crisis.

The Dow jumped 157 points Friday to close at 12,862. That's the highest since May 2008. The Nasdaq composite index closed at its highest level since December 2000.

Before the market opened, the Labor Department said companies hired 243,000 employees in January. That's the strongest job growth in nine months. The increase in hiring pushed the unemployment rate down to 8.3 percent.

The S&P 500 index added 19 points, or 1.5 percent, to 1,345.

More than four stocks rose for every one that fell on the New York Stock Exchange. Trading volume was 4.6 billion shares.

NC GOP voters might want to know why Burr is one of 3 voting against the stock bill. Seems the man has some interesting natural gas stock!

Investors are getting confedence in the economy. Knowing Obama the tax & spend Marxist Socialst is out in 2012. Why did the Marxist-Socialist cross the road? To sit on the other side of the road , on a public Gov't paid for bench. To wait for the Gov't mail car. to get a Gov't welfare check.

Iwish Obama hadn't put this country so far in debt that it will be impossible to pay off the bill. The economy cycles and would have returned to this level with or without all of the reckless Obama debt spending.

The elephant in the room is the over 16 Trillion dollar national debt that the USA is sitting on. The stock market is a bubble and and is very risky.

How funny that all the Right-wingers here are suddenly concerned about jobs with a liveable wage and benifits...the same posters that post endlessly how Unions are evil, etc etc. Since when did you guys care about the middle class and poor? When the news suddenly puts another nail in the GOP's coffin for 2012?

What planet are you from? Unions are evil thugs. So those rich people hire burger flippers and fry flingers....now that is hope and change all in one!

Again liberal lies!!!! Republicans have ALWAYS been concerned about livable wages and benefits, you DO NOT need unions to accomplish that. Union workers are, for the most part, WAY OVER PAID, that is the problem with the unions. I AM one of the middle class and many, many of my republican friends are either middle class or poor, so your claims are baseless and false. This is not a nail in the GOP coffin, the GOP controlled house can take alot of the credit for these numbers as well. But, as usual, you liberals will take all the credit when something goes in the right direction and blame anybody under the sun on the GOP side of the fence when something goes wrong. Can you spell hypocrite? You should be able to, since you ARE ONE!!

If enough people are blinded by the obama's lies and he wins, it will not be another nail in the GOP's coffin. It will be many nails in America's coffin and a huge funeral for her thrown in free.

If you look at Obamas poll numbers, he is under Jimmy Carters numbers at this point. No other president has won America with those numbers so just read the libterdial posts and wonder.....how desperate can they be? Pretty much there. The hope is gone and the change went out the window when he shut down the pipeline. When gas prices are still over 3 dollars a gallon...he is done. Its been over 3 years of 3 dollar gas...he inherited $1.61 from Bush. This is how much a failure he has been to cater to big oil nad lobbies.

See how hard it is to find a Republican anywhere that is happy things are getting better. Can't find one here on this board. I am not seeing any on the news, just more bashing of Obama. Why? Because this is not about the good of the country for Republicans, it is about hating Obama. See where the word "repugnant" comes from now?

I look forward to yours and Lavons comments, they are as entertaining (all most) as Garfild the cat. By the way have you or Lavon invested in one of those obama $45,000 dinner dates. Only the 1 percenters can afford that.

I hope all the 1% start supporting Obama. Those who have some morals, like Buffett, will continue to support him and try get the rest to pay their fair share in taxes. This would be a better country if we didn't have the 1% (especially people who want to be POTUS) hiding their money in Switzerland and the Caymans to avoid paying taxes.

Barlow... lol if Buffett really cared about his secretary, WHY DOESN'T HE JUST PAY HER MORE MONEY ? It's not like he can't afford it. Oh poor ole lady, having to pay so much tax on her income, boo hoo.

Nope, he and Lavon still owe me for that bridge they bought in 08. They also owe for the massive spending Obama did with nothing to show for it. Both are running scared about Romney. Since both work for the government, its likely they will lose their jobs as tad pole counters and shimp treadmill observers....

Forgive, them, Cactus. It's the blind leading the blind. 3 years of absolute misery under this president, and all of a sudden, in an election year, the numbers are gettting better? If you ask me, its a no-brainer that they're fixing the numbers. But you and I know that!
