Smoking Strongly Linked To Bladder Cancer

Researchers say cases of bladder cancer linked to smoking are much higher than previously thought.

The new study from the National Cancer Institute found former smokers were two times more likely to develop bladder cancer than people who never smoked, and current smokers were four times more likely.

Researchers also found the risk for the disease among women who smoke is similar to that of men, where smoking is the suspected cause of half of all cases.

According to the American Cancer Society, over 1,800 new cases of bladder cancer were reported North Carolina in 2010.

My father died of it a few years ago. He was a smoker and being very diligent about trying to find out what was wrong for 2 years. He was FINALLY sent to UNC-Chapel Hill 2 years LATER and was told he had about 5 months. If your doctor is NOT doing his job, be VERY PROACTIVE in your care and always bring someone with you. My father was a doctor in a different feild. YOU SHOULD BE VERY CONCERNED. Go elsewhere when your not getting answers and the care you deserve. God Bless.

And fools in government still want to allow smoking and not tax it to prevent cancer deaths. When will people realize that smoking and the related health issues are a problem, but one that can be prevented. We should not let the know nothing party in leadership steal the tobacco settlement funds. These funds must be used for prevention and educational matters on smoking, not roads and paying the salary increases of the know nothing party leadership staff.
