Senate Readies Bill To Stop Lawmaker Insider Deals

A recent poll indicates that a majority of Americans favor dumping every member of Congress. Now, the Senate is trying to restore a measure of trust by passing legislation to ban insider trading by lawmakers.

Insider trading laws apply to all Americans. But CBS' "60 Minutes" reported in November that members of the House and Senate get a free pass and that some lawmakers legally used knowledge from their official work to make money in the market.

A procedural vote in the Senate on Monday would allow the bill to pass later in the week.

Let's get rid of the REAL entitlement programs. For example the HUGE benefit packages for senators, congressman and the president. While we are at it, lets set term limits so we no longer have career politicians. Then and only then will you have people in political office who truly care about this country and not about themselves and their self serving interests. The money saved can go to paying off the national debt and most importantly making sure every veteran who has returned from war or is yet to return from war gets those same benefits that we just stripped away from the politicians. They are the heroes of this country NOT the lying politicians!!!

They will make sure there is a loop hole big enough for them to fly a plane through, so it will be meaningless. They won't cut their own throats by passing something that will hurt themselves.

This is like putting a bandaid on a flood. It will take a lot more than the pretense of this one action, which won't pass anyway, to restore public confidence in Washington and Raleigh. I personally believe we should get a new broom that sweeps clean and start all over again with ways to stop the foxes from guarding the hen house.

Well, I commend the Senate for trying but I would doubt this kind of thing will pass. And if it does pass they will find a way around the law. Unfortunately for us, a lot of people are not in office to serve, unless you mean "serve themselves"

If and i say again if it passes they will just find some other sneaky low handed way to milk the public out of any moneys they are out of. They will not cut there own throats without a back up.
