Romney Wins New Hampshire Primary, Ron Paul Second

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has won the New Hampshire Republican primary.

Romney is the first Republican to win both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary in a competitive race since Iowa took the leadoff role in 1976.

Romney is telling supporters, "Tonight we celebrate. Tomorrow we go back to work."

At a victory celebration following his win in the New Hampshire primary, Romney said his campaign had "made history."

Romney focused on President Barack Obama in his remarks to supporters -- mentioning his own GOP rivals only to say some "desperate" Republicans had joined Democrats in putting "free enterprise on trial." Some of his Republican opponents in recent days have been focusing on Romney's role at a venture capital firm, and whether he put profits ahead of the jobs of workers.

He said Obama wants Americans to depend on their government -- while Romney says he himself puts his faith in the American people.

He accused Obama of pursuing an "appeasement" strategy around the world and criticizing the nation's friends -- something Romney says he would never do.

Ron Paul came in second, followed by Jon Huntsman, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Rick Perry.

I’m going to bankrupt this country by any means necessary, and if you try to stop me or slow me down, I’ll shut the government down and blame it on you. If you try to stop me, you can kiss your political careers good-bye. Isn’t this essentially what Barack Obama and his allies in the U.S. Senate are saying to the Republican leaders in Congress? One thing is certain: it’s not an idle threat. Obama and his allies control the executive branch of the government and the United States Senate. They also control the mainstream media. On top of that, they control the unions, which they are sending into the streets. Our great nation is on the verge of bankruptcy. The national debt stands at $14 trillion. When the people cried out and demanded that Washington put a stop to the out-of-control waste and spending, Barack Obama instead responded by proposing a budget that, by his own calculations, doubles our already untenable debt over the next decade.

You guys and gals don't get it, really, its over your head. Put in simple minded terms just for you. You cannot run a company by spending 10 million and selling off 5 million assets. Why would any company, or how could any company operate long doing that? So if you are stupid enough to believe it....good for you and I am sure you would last a long time doing the same thing. Sounds like a great business plan! If you are intelligent enough to realize something stinks here, like who in their right mind would do that consider the source is the newsmedia like mediamattters where it originated from. You have been played as a fool.

It is so heartening to see a Republican presidential candidate attempting to giving voice to the foundation of what Democrats and Independents have been trying to say about income inequality, the shifting of wealth from middle class to the very wealthy, and why capitalism is not always the rising tide that lifts all boats. When WE protest the fact that for decades the middle class is falling further behind while CEOs, investment bankers, lobbyists, and politicians are raking in unbelievable wealth, WE are accused of being socialist. But our Constitution does not guarantee a capitalist government, it guarantees a democratic one - where "we the people" can recognize a role for government in enacting policies that will promote opportunities for the "people" that promote a vibrant middle class - the backbone of America. These opportunities can then lead to great wealth for those who are able to become wealthy through hard work or fortunate circumstances, BUT NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE REST OF US. (I don't envy the rich, I don't want their money, but when they screw it up for everybody else, I start complaining about the class warfare the middle class has been subjected to for decades).

Since some of you kids posting have no idea how you are being used I thought I should post this for you education/schooling; Rick Santorum says it best; I do know from the business experience I have that the most profitable way to engage in that type of activity is to find a company, turn it around, make a profit and then spin it off. that’s how you make money. You don’t by buying that company, tearing it apart. you make a little bit of money but you‘re not doing what you’re out to do which is to build a track record of success, a track record of returns a track record that would make people interested in engaging you as someone to help them run your company. I hope some of you have at least a little common sense to know when you are being used as a pawn to sound like an uneducated idiot. OSOC

The goal of Bain Capital investments was not job creation but to make companies more profitable and, thereby, more valuable to investors. To do so, LAYOFFS would be necessary along with OVERSEAS expansion and "HIGHER WAGES FOR EXECUTIVES". One of the companies that Bain Capital worked with was the office supply store Stapes, which the is described as a textbook example of CREATIVE DESTRUCTION. As Staples succeeded, smaller stationery shops closed and the company soon expanded overseas; such business accounted for 21 percent of Staples’ revenue in 2010. As the company grew, its CEO went from making $4.7 MILLION in 2006 to $10.8 MILLION in 2010, while the average wage of a retail sales worker is about $25,000 a year. Thanks Mitt Romney!!

The fact you see anything wrong with any of that shows how brainwashed by the main stream media you are. It also shows how woefully inept our educational system is at teaching capitalism. Yes thanks Mitt Romney since everyone with a retirement account and everyone with a 401k and everyone with a pension is an investor ans benefited from his actions.

Bain in 1988 put $5 million down to buy Stage Stores, and in the mid-'90s took it public, collecting $100 million from stock offerings. Stage filed for bankruptcy in 2000.....Bain in 1992 bought American Pad & Paper (AMPAD), investing $5 million, and collected $100 million from dividends. The business filed for bankruptcy in 2000......Bain in 1993 invested $60 million when buying GS Industries, and received $65 million from dividends. The fact that you DON'T see anything wrong with that shows you have more in common with the Chinese government than the American worker. Just because a person or company has the "right" to destroy businesses and peoples' lives doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. It goes straight to the character of this man-just as strapping his dog on the top of his car does (not a problem until the dog got sick and he just hosed him and strapped him again)!

You still don't get it. Most of these companies were going under already. If laying off a few in order to keep the business open and save most of the jobs is required then it is the route you must follow. Nothing communist about it. A company's first responsibility is to the shareholders of that company. It does not exist to give people jobs and just get by with an unusable business model.

To Ramone: Did you have a point with all that copy and paste you posted? It looks to me like Bain acted in the way it should. First off all those bankruptcies occurred after Mitt left the company in 1999 so trying to blame him for that is a stretch. Second the fact that they took failing companies and were able to make money with them is a good thing not some gotcha moment. Third state and union pensions and retirement funds are the primary investors in Bain capital so those are the people who benefited the most from Bain's actions. I thought liberals were pro union, pro government worker and pro pensions but it appears you are not.

No you don't get it because the reporting on this subject has been woefully incompetent and purposely misleading. If you understood how venture capital worked you would know that ythose companies were dead and the fact any profit was gotten is a good thing and far more people benefited than were hurt by their actions. Not just rich people either, average everyday Americans who have retirement funds and investments.

Romney is a flip flopper, he has gone back and forth on his stance multiple times when talking about the federal reserve. He is just saying what he thinks the voters want to hear similar to the way Obama did during his campaign and election. When will you see that the two party system was designed as a smoke screen to distract people like you from what really happens in politics. I'll never rely on statistics to forecast either, I rely on facts, I'm surprised YOU of all people would go by statistics!

Yeah, we are all aware of the flip flopper in chief; “ The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” ~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

Don't worry "and" I am just listening to the primary candidates....and no matter what happens this go around, it will be anybody but Obama like most of the Americans in this country. That doesn't inlude you illegal aliens. Yeah, yeah, we know you people want illegals to vote too but its supposed to be a citizen thing. Wait...were you not fetching your tin foil hat in you last posts? I am not sure if they will beam you back to Uranus or to Greece...they probably ran out of the rich peoples money there too. Boy, that worked really well for Greece didn't it? Bringing the EU down a day at a time.

Both President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, the GOP frontrunner, have continuously argued in speeches that their policies would most help the middle class. But Romney’s argument took a hit last night, undercut by a detailed analysis by nonpartisan Tax Policy Center that showed Romney’s plan focuses tax cuts on the rich, while cutting taxes marginally for the middle class. It also would effectively raise taxes on those making less than $40,000 a year, the analysis found, when tax cuts for the middle class put in place by Obama would be allowed to expire. The wealthy would stand to gain from Romneys Tax Plan, and the middle class will bare the burden. Re-elect Obama, force all the obstructionist GOP out!!

you're just a blabbing democrat. Every single citizen in America would have to pay taxes. Someone making $ 40K/year should at least pay 8-10%. Everyone should make some contrabution to the financing of the country. And yes, corporations shouldn't get a pass either. We really need a FLAT TAX in America. Everyone pays the same amount. Someone making $ 20k would pay their 10% ($ 2000) someone making $ 100k would pay their 10% ($ 10,000) and someone making $ 100 million would pay their 10% ( $ 10 million) How could you possible argue with this plan ?

Hey, the babbling democrat is correct. Just research Romneys Tax Plan. It gives all the advantages to the wealthy and barely any to middle class citizens.

The study by the Wall Street Journal found that under Romney, Bain's results were worse for the acquired companies and their employees, and better for the Bain investors, than the common practice among either venture or vulture capitalists. No wonder Romney won't explain how many jobs he thinks he created (or release his tax returns).

Why is it that you democrats think you add something to the conversation? You blew you chance by voting for the worst president in the history of this nation! My point is, we don't care about Bain and all the other points you make, doesn't matter, really, its about us/me who will vote for the next president and no info you have is allowed at the table. It makes you sound like a desperate plea to save Obimbo...he is gone in 2012 already, don't you use thei internet?

This plan stinks just as much as 999 did. Why can't they put the middleclass first? We are the ones who support and stimulate to economy, not the wealthy.

So, you are saying that logs float upstream regardless of the wind? On your planet, do they think spending is not a problem?

I didn't know there was a name for this kind of business called "creative destruction" that's gospel to many businesspeople. But people aren't stupid. They know when their jobs are deliberately being destroyed by those with money. This early revelation paints a stark contrast between Romney and the 1% GOP, and Obama. I now predict Obama will win in a cakewalk.

Nope, he cannot tell the truth...its one thing to be a flip flopper its another to outright lie; “ The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.
